The Black Stars of Ghana have improved their position in the world rankings, moving up to 59th in the most recent list given by FIFA on June 29, 2023.
The four-time African champions have made considerable strides under the leadership of Chris Hughton, who was recently named head coach and assumed control of the squad in March 2023.
The squad hasn’t lost since Hughton took over, winning in Kumasi against Angola and drawing twice.
These encouraging outcomes raise Ghana’s prospects of participating in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Ghana is currently ranked as the 11th-best team in Africa, with Morocco at the top. Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, and Senegal are the top five African nations. The top 10 list also features notable African nations Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso.
As the current world champions, Argentina continues to hold the top slot on the international stage. France and Brazil are in second and third place, respectively. In order to take over fourth place, England has surpassed Belgium, while Croatia has surpassed the Netherlands. The top three nations are Spain, Portugal, and Italy.
In September, the Black Stars’ AFCON Qualifying campaign will recommence with a match against the Central African Republic that must be won. Because of the team’s better play under Chris Hughton, they may feel optimistic about their prospects of winning and maintaining their rise in the global rankings.
