The individual involved in the tragic incident in Columbus, Ohio, where a 49-year-old Ghanaian man took his own life after shooting his wife, has been identified as Michael Amoako, the Sumankwahene of the Asanteman Association in Columbus.
According to Kofi Adoma Nwanwani of Kofi TV, the deceased, who was a former footballer known as Chessy, died in a murder-suicide attempt after shooting his 50-year-old wife, Harriet Yaa Gyamfua Aboagye. Prior to the incident, Michael sent an audio recording to his family, accusing his wife of planning to leave him to marry her ex-boyfriend in Ghana.
Reports indicate that Michael, also known as Amoako, was the Sumankwahene of the Asanteman Association in Columbus. He had previously lived in New York before bringing Gyamfua to the United States through the American Visa Lottery after their marriage. They later settled in Columbus, where they had been residing. Unfortunately, Gyamfua’s mother fell ill and had to return to Ghana for further treatment, but sadly, she passed away.
The husband claimed that upon Gyamfua’s return to America, she informed him that she had rekindled her relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Emmanuel Duah, and that they were even in the process of getting married. These circumstances led to the tragic incident.
Gyamfua is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment at Riverside Methodist Hospital, according to multiple news reports. The police responded to a domestic violence report in the Glendon Road area, but the situation escalated into a shooting before their arrival.
Neighbors, including Michael Montgomery, expressed shock over the incident, as the couple had always appeared pleasant and no prior issues were witnessed. Montgomery recounted how the couple’s three young sons sought help after the shooting occurred. The community was aware of the couple’s active involvement in the Ghanaian community in Columbus.
