Frederick Acheampong, Chairman of the Black Meteors management committee, has confirmed that Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ernest Nuamah will be included in the team for the upcoming U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana’s Olympic team has been placed in Group A alongside host nation Morocco, Congo, and Guinea.

Acheampong acknowledged the importance of having some key players in the squad, as their presence would significantly enhance Ghana’s chances in the tournament. The top two teams from the final and winning semi-finalists will qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

He stated that Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ernest Nuamah, who are currently part of the Black Stars, would be required for the U-23 team. Acheampong mentioned that negotiations were underway with the players and the Black Stars’ technical team to secure their availability. He added that they planned to have the players join the Black Meteors after the Black Stars’ game on the 18th.

Acheampong clarified that Kudus Mohammed would not be eligible for the U-23 assignment due to his date of birth. However, he assured that Sulemana, Nuamah, and any other player deemed suitable by the coach would be part of the team.

“We are negotiating with the players and the Black Stars technical team to see if most of them will be available. In any case the Black Stars game is on the 18th so after that those who are available can join us,” he told Graphic Sports.

“Kudus is not eligible because he was born in the year 2000 but there are other players in the Black Stars like Kamaldeen and Nuamah who would be needed in the Black Meteors”, he stated.

The upcoming U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament is scheduled to take place from June 25 to July 8.
